Ruxolitinib Tablet
What is Ruxolitinib Tablet?
Ruxolitinib Tablet is used in the treatment of Myelofibrosis (a cancer of the bone marrow in which the bone marrow is replaced by scar tissue and causes decreased blood cell production). It’s also used to cure polycythemia vera (PV; a slow-growing blood malignancy in which the bone marrow produces too many red blood cells) in those who couldn’t get hydroxyurea to work. Ruxolitinib is also used to treat severe other diseases in children and adults aged 12 and up who have failed to respond to other therapies.
Ruxolitinib belongs to the kinase inhibitor class of drugs. It acts to treat myelofibrosis and PV by preventing cancer cells from multiplying by inhibiting the signals that cause them to grow. This helps to prevent cancer cells from spreading.
How To Use It
- Ruxolitinib is available as a tablet that must be swallowed. It’s commonly taken twice a day, with or without food. Every day, take ruxolitinib at the same time. Follow the label instructions carefully.
- If you have myelofibrosis or PV, your doctor may begin you on a small dose of ruxolitinib for the first 4 weeks of treatment, then progressively raise your dose once every two weeks after that.
- Do not chew or crush the tablets; they must be swallowed whole.
- If you are unable to eat by mouth and have a nasogastric (NG) tube, your doctor may recommend that you take ruxolitinib through the tube. Your doctor will show you how to prepare ruxolitinib for NG tube administration.
